BWXT reports “unexpected wastewater discharge” to TDEC
BWX Technologies said an “unexpected wastewater discharge” occurred last week when a waterline became loose during maintenance at its Jonesborough location. A social media post from the company said a water line came loose during maintenance and caused a wastewater discharge with teams reportedly working to immediately contain the discharge. Environmental sampling was performed and reported the incident to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. The letter that was sent to TDEC outlines that around 900 gallons of wastewater flowed onto the floor of a building and made it outside. The wastewater reportedly contained a chemical degreaser and according to BWXT, TDEC found “no reportable environmental concerns” following the incident.
