Carter County prepares for property re-assessments

Carter County has been preparing for the 2026 property re-assessments. The last assessment was completed in 2021. Most property owners should expect an increase. Officials say residents will receive a reappraisal reassessment notice and could find the increase in value a little shocking. Once all property owner’s increases are combined, the state lowers the tax rate so Carter County’s tax revenues stay roughly the same. Once notices are sent out, for two weeks, property owners can dispute the appraisals they receive. Carter County property owners can expect to receive a reappraisal evaluation notice by the beginning of May.
