David Crockett High School seniors request school board member Keith Ervin to stay away from student events
David Crockett High School seniors have a message for District 1 School Board member Keith Ervin- you are not welcome at any of the events that will closeout the year, including graduation.
In a letter obtained through a records request from Bristol Broadcasting, the document is addressed to Board Chair Annette Buchanan. One portion says Ervin fell short of being a role model with high standards and due to those shortcomings, they request that Ervin not attend their final events.
“Along with professionalism comes publicity. Mr. Ervin attending these events would not only cause public uproar but would also cause protests, unwanted media, and other safety risks at our events and graduation,” the letter said.
“This does not only affect us emotionally, but it also poses a safety risk for students and attendees. On the note of publicity, our county has already seen backlash from not only our state, but the entire country. The attendance of Mr. Ervin will bring even more attention to us and the negative light that comes with it.”
Another paragraph said all 248 members of the Class of 2026 have worked toward these final moments and if Ervin attends, the focus would go to him and reduces their celebration. They also said Ervin’s presence would not be inviting or safe. The letter will be presented to all board members during their work session on Tuesday.
David Crockett’s graduation is scheduled for next month at the ETSU Mini Dome in Johnson City.
