FEMA announces millions in additional disaster funding for Helene recovery projects
The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced millions in additional funding to support Hurricane Helene recovery projects in Tennessee. The agency approved more than $50 million to support 39 projects related to Helene and other past disasters. That includes $20.2 million going to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency for emergency protective measures and debris removal following Helene and April 2025 severe storms. Another $8.9 million is also allocated to the Tennessee Department of Transportation for the removal of construction, demolition, and vegetative debris caused by the hurricane. Mountain Electric Cooperative will receive $4.2 million for repairs and Carter County will use $2.5 million in funding for repairs to bridges over the Doe and Elk Rivers.
