Four responder relief: Fund established to assist workers hurt in I-26 wreck
A fund-raising drive has started to assist the four Kingsport emergency service professionals who were injured last month on Interstate 26 when a vehicle crashed into them while on the scene of an initial incident.
The author of the report said all four are off work and not receiving full pay, causing financial hardship. They have set a goal of $24,000 with the proceeds to be split four ways for the injured workers.
Those first-responders were helping those involved in a crash near westbound Exit 6 last month when a motorist swerving to avoid the wreck hit the workers, three Kingsport Fire Department officials and one Sullivan County EMT.
