Immigrant advocacy groups file lawsuit against TN over drivers license policies
A new legal battle is brewing in Tennessee. Immigrant advocacy groups have filed a lawsuit against the Department of Safety and Homeland Security over an abrupt shift in driver’s license policies. The lawsuit, filed by the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition and the National Immigration Law Center, challenges a state rule restricting the federal documents accepted for temporary licenses. Advocates say the change suddenly excludes thousands of legally authorized residents—including DACA recipients and work permit holders—who have driven safely in the state for decades. The state has declined to comment on the pending litigation, but plaintiffs are asking a Davidson County court to immediately halt the policy, arguing it was implemented unlawfully without public input.
