Investigators: Woman tried to drown child at Jonesborough pool party
A woman is charged after Washington County, Tennessee investigators said she tried to drown a child during a pool party held at a home in Jonesborough.
A county report said Mikaylee Rae Beirne, 31, of Johnson City, is charged with one count of aggravated child abuse following the Wednesday afternoon incident. Preliminary details say a parent was warned by another child who came out of the water, telling them Beirne was forcing the victim under water.
Police also said Beirne refused to release the child after the parent demanded her to stop. After an argument with another adult at the home, Beirne left the home before deputies arrived who confirmed the child’s bruising and minor injuries were consistent with the statements of other witnesses.
Beirne was taken into custody later in the evening and is being held in jail on a $50,000 bond.
