Johnson City police report pedestrian death on West Market

Johnson City authorities have reported a fatality linked to an incident involving a pedestrian.

A city report said Matthew Greer, 40, of Erwin, was crossing West Market Street just before 9 pm Wednesday evening when he was hit by a pickup truck near Hopper Road. Greer later died at an area hospital from his injuries.

As part of the preliminary investigation, a police statement said there was no indication that speed, driver distraction, or impairment was a factor in the crash.
