Kingsport BMA approves quarry rezoning request
The Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a rezoning request that allows for the expansion of a quarry near the Tri-Cities Airport. The request was approved on second reading Tuesday night in a 6–1 vote. Mayor Paul Montgomery cast the lone vote against. The quarry is owned by Martin Marietta and is located off Airport Parkway, around 200 yards from Holston Elementary School. Residents and school leaders, have raised concerns about how the quarry’s expansion might impact nearby homes and Holston Elementary School. Martin Marrieta has said there would be a 100-foot buffer between the rezoned property and adjacent property owners.
