Kingsport BMA considers quarry expansion near Tri-Cities Airport
The Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen consider the expansion of a quarry near Tri-Cities Airport. The quarry is located off Airport Parkway, around 200 yards from Holston Elementary School. There will be a 100-foot buffer between the rezoned property and adjacent property and the zoning change will not impact traffic. Some residents have raised concerns about the potential for damage to homes and impacts on Holston Elementary. Concerns have also been expressed by school leaders. The board approved the request in a 6–1 vote Tuesday night with Mayor Paul Montgomery casting the single vote against. The 49-acre rezoning request will have to be passed on second reading for final adoption. The second reading will take place at the board’s Aug. 4 meeting.
