Kingsport man charged with vehicular homicide after HWY 107 crash
A Kingsport man was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication Tuesday following a fatal crash on Highway 107 near the Jackson Bridge. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said that the crash was reported Tuesday at around 2 p.m. on Hwy 107 near Jackson Bridge Road in the South Central community. A vehicle reportedly driven by 33 year old Alfonso Vasquez-Morales crossed into the opposite lane of travel and hit a motorcycle head-on. The motorcyclist, 69 year old William Richard Sauer of Brooksville, Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene. A call to 911 a few minutes before the crash resulted in a Be On the Look Out for the vehicle with reports that the vehicle Vasquez-Morales was driving almost hit a car head-on near the Nolichucky Fire Department. Witnesses told police that Vasquez-Morales was allegedly weaving in and out of traffic just before the crash and he admitted to deputies on scene that he had consumed “six or seven” beers before driving. Vasquez-Morales is facing multiple charges including vehicular homicide. Bond was set but Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a hold on his release.
