Man identified in officer involved shooting
The name of the man killed in an officer involved shooting over the weekend has been identified. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has identified the man as 78 year old James Owen Reynolds. Around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, the Carter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of vandalism at a home in the 100 block of Jarrett-Buck Loop. The report states that when deputies arrived at around 2:30 p.m., they found Reynolds armed with a gun and then barricaded himself in the home. Deputies attempted to get him to surrender using chemical agents and other non-lethal means. Reynolds reportedly shot at deputies and a law enforcement drone. Deputies then utilized a fire department water hose to gain leverage and at that point, for reasons still under investigation, deputies fired shots striking Reynolds. Reynolds was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. The shooting remains under investigation.
