Mayor arrested for embezzlement released on bond

Current Haysi Mayor Larry Yates was granted a $2,500 bond during a Monday video hearing from a Dickenson County court session.

Yates, who is accused by State Police of embezzling town funding and using their credit cards, was released from custody and cannot visit any town property, contact town officials, and refrain from drug and alcohol use as part of his bond requirements.

Vice Mayor Debbie Wood told the Cardinal News that they expect Yates’ resignation, and if he doesn’t comply, the town will file motions in court to have Yates removed.
