Milligan crash suspect’s bond increased to $300,000
The North Carolina driver accused of killing two Milligan University cycling team members in a Highway 19-E crash appeared in court in Elizabethton.
State prosecutors requested an increase in bond for 69-year-old John Benfield that was granted by the judge for $300,000 with conditions of no driving and no use of alcohol or drugs with Benfield drug tested on request.
The judge also said Benfield could hire his own attorney due to his financial and property assets. His preliminary hearing is set for August 31st.
