Murder reported in Southwest Virginia following New Year’s Eve party

One person is dead following a shooting at a New Year’s Eve party in Southwest Virginia.

According to the Tazewell Police Department, 23-year-old Coven Byrd-Hall is charged with murder following an altercation and subsequent shooting at a home in the 100 block of Vinton Street.

Hall was arrested early Thursday and also faces several weapon charges. The name of the victim has not been released.
