One fatality reported in Marion house fire

A house fire in Marion Monday night leaves one person dead. The fire happened in the 800 block of Cumberland Street just after 5 p.m. Firefighters entered the smoke filled home searching for an elderly resident who was reportedly still inside. The occupant was located and transported to Smyth County Community Hospital, where he died from his injuries. The victim’s name was not released. One firefighter was also treated and released from the hospital.
