Publix supermarket to anchor proposed new shopping center in Boones Creek
A Publix supermarket will anchor a proposed new shopping center in Boones Creek if Johnson City commissioners approve a development agreement Thursday night. The 77-acre “Promenade” development will be owned by Knoxville-based Horne Properties and developed by that company’s development arm. It is planned for the northwest corner of Boones Creek and Christian Church roads. Officials say that City infrastructure work outlined in the agreement should be complete by May 2027, with the new Publix ready to open by June 2027. If approved, the city will begin the required next steps for development, such as traffic studies around the area. Boones Creek Road and Christian Church Road would be widened, with that construction scheduled be completed by May of 2027.
