Report: Gunshot victim in Wise County wounded while sitting inside vehicle

A male victim in Wise, Virginia was transported to an area hospital Tuesday night after authorities said he was shot in the back while inside his truck.

The alleged gunman was identified as Ronnie Wayne Phillips Jr., 48, of Castlewood. Phillips is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied vehicle and a weapon charge following the incident on Sykes Boulevard. The report said Phillips pulled up to the victim’s vehicle, fired shots from his SUV, then left the scene. He was later arrested on Tacoma Mountain Road.

Sheriff Grant Kilgore said Phillips and the victim were known to each other and the shooting was an isolated matter. Phillips is jailed and has emergency protective orders placed against him.
