Residents displaced after Milligan Highway apartment fire

A fire Sunday afternoon at Sterling Hills Apartment homes, off Milligan Highway in Carter County. The fire began outside, someone in another apartment smelled smoke and alerted others. One dog died in the fire and one cat was rescued from an apartment. A firefighter suffered minor injuries. All apartments in the building were impacted with several being heavily damaged. The Red Cross was called into assist. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
