State Police confirm investigation of Southwest Virginia football coach

The Virginia State Police has confirmed Union High School head football coach Travis Turner is the focus of a current investigation concerning his job as an advisor and teacher.

The VSP statement issued Friday afternoon said officers went to Turner’s address on Thursday night for an interview and the coach could not be located. It also said Turner, 46, had not been charged with any crime.

Friday morning, a statement from Wise County Public Schools said an employee had been suspended from their job with pay pending the result of an investigation. The agency would not comment on specifics because it was an internal personnel issue.

Turner’s Union Bears are on the eve of a regional playoff game at Bullitt Park in BSG on Saturday after completing an undefeated regular season.
