Students evacuated, possible suspects identified after bomb threat in Yancey County
Several officers in neighboring Yancey County, North Carolina converged on a school for grades 7 to 9 and helped evacuate students after a bomb threat was discovered.
Sheriff Shane Hilliard said notes were found on the East Yancey Middle School campus that said, “I have a bomb,” leading to a launch of safety procedures with a full response from law enforcement. Hilliard said two possible suspects were being interviewed and all signs point to the threat as a hoax.
The school system allowed parents to pick up students during the instructional day.
