Suspect in Carroll County deputy’s murder captured in NC
The suspect in a shooting that killed one Carroll County, Va. sheriff’s deputy and injured another was taken into custody Sunday. Friday, May 29, deputies with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received a welfare check request for a home on Fancy Gap Highway. Deputies arrived and when they made contact with 55 year old, Michael Puckett, he reportedly fired at the deputies, killing Deputy Logan Utt and injuring another deputy. Puckett fled, resulting in a search using both state and federal resources. He was spotted on a wildlife game camera on Greenhill Road in Surry County, NC according to the Wytheville Police Department. The U.S. Marshal’s Service was offering a $10,000 reward for information related to his capture, with the FBI adding in another $60,000.
