Suspect in fatal Milligan University Cycling accident posts bond
A judge increased the bond for 69 year old, North Carolina man, John Benfield, charged in the crash that killed two Milligan University students and injured others. Benfield’s bond was initially set at $150,000, state prosecutors suggested doubling it to $300,000 and the request was granted. The state also asked to suspend any driving and for drug and alcohol testing. Benfield faces two counts of reckless vehicular homicide and five counts of reckless aggravated assault by vehicle. A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 31. Benfield posted the $300,000 bond and was released from jail, according to the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.
