Suspect with ‘substantial supply’ of narcotics stopped in Bristol, Virginia
A Bristol, Virginia Police Department crime report said a city resident was attempting to bring in a substantial supply of narcotics before a traffic stop on Lee Highway.
Matthew J. Abel, 47, is charged with two counts of felony possession with intent to distribute and two counts of transporting controlled substances into the Commonwealth, according to a statement issued Monday.
Washington County, Virginia Deputy Dustin Tilson assisted in the investigation by transporting the squad’s K9 officer Kala to the scene and her discovery of the narcotics inside.
Bristol Chief of Police Byron Ashbrook said one pound of methamphetamine, one ounce of fentanyl and other narcotics were seized along with Abel’s supply of cash. Abel was released after posting a $5,000 bond.
