VA pausing some SNAP benefits to “ensure full compliance with federal requirements”
Virginia is pausing the issuance of its emergency nutrition benefits to “ensure full compliance with federal requirements,” after the Trump administration ordered states to “immediately undo any steps taken to issue full SNAP benefits for November.” This action follows the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s directive to all states to initiate a partial issuance of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits reflecting a 35% reduction in maximum allotments. A statement from Governor Youngkins office says that Virginia will deliver 65% of the typical month’s SNAP benefits to eligible households this month, in addition to the 25% of the benefit already provided earlier in the month through the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance initiative. Officials anticipate that Virginia’s benefits will be processed no later than Thursday.
