VSP captain says Travis Turner case is daily chore with dozens assigned
A chief criminal investigator with the Virginia State Police says the work and the search for former football coach Travis Turner receives attention daily.
Turner, now missing for almost four months, currently faces 10 child porn related charges involving a 16-year-old student, according to information posted in the New York Post.
Captain Jerry Daniels said the priority is locating Turner safely and the agency has 27 combined state personnel solely dedicated to the Turner case along with 50-plus state, local and federal experts. So far, Daniels reports 178 leads, including 17 anonymous tips, have been submitted to State Police and all have been unfounded.
“VSP is being assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service, FBI, and the Black Diamond Search and Rescue team, a nonprofit organization that provides specially trained professionals to locate and assist lost or missing individuals in wilderness and rural environments,” the report said.
Turner went missing on Thursday, November 20, 2025. As part of the early stages of an investigation, VSP Special Agents from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation Wytheville Field Office were sent to Turner’s residence in Appalachia, located in Wise County. This was part of the investigation, and not to arrest him. While in transit, the agents were informed that Turner was no longer at the location.
The US Marshals Service is offering up to $5,000 in reward money to anyone who submits information that leads to the arrest of Turner.
