Washington County TN BOE member, Keith Ervin, charged with assault
Keith Ervin, the Washington County Board of Education member who referred to a student as “hot” during an April meeting, has now been charged with assault in relation to that incident. Ervin was seen, in a video that went viral, telling a student, “God, you’re hot, you know that? Where do you go to school at?” during an April 2 school board meeting. The student said that she went to David Crockett High School, and Ervin then said, “alright” and appeared to reach over and touch her shoulder. After public outcry, the school board voted to censure Ervin on April 8. The Washington County Commission also made a vote of no confidence in Ervin on April 27. Ervin has maintained that the clip of the meeting showing the interaction lacks context and has insisted he only meant to compliment the way the girl had been asking questions during the meeting. Court records show a charge of assault was filed against Ervin Monday, with a violation date of April 2. The school board said that it will defer to law enforcement and the judicial system regarding the charges against Ervin.
