Weber City fires Police Chief and sergeant amid VSP investigation
After two weeks of investigation, Weber City Town Council members voted unanimously to terminate a chief and sergeant from the police department. Council met in closed session for an hour before reconvening for the vote. Chief Donald Harding III and an unnamed sergeant were fired for violation of town policy. Now, only one officer is working for the department and they are expected to leave by April 5, after resigning due to the current circumstances. Scott County Sheriff’s Office will offer police coverage until the town hires a new police force. The council did not indicate what policies the officers broke and a Virginia State Police investigation remains ongoing.
