Weber City VA continues to discuss lack of police dept.
The Weber City Town Council on Tuesday, discussed the future of the town’s police department after the police chief and sergeant were fired over allegations of fraudulent time sheets. Since then, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police have stepped in to provide coverage for the town. Mayor Justin Addington said the town would like to reinstate the police department, but that process will take time. Town officials plan to speak with the county about working out a deal to supply the town with officers in the meantime and that meeting is expected to take place in the next couple of weeks. The council voted Tuesday night to sell some of the police department’s vehicles, but not the entire fleet. After a Virginia State Police investigation, prosecutors did not recommend criminal charges into the former police department employees.
